Inauguration Invocations Fine By Me

The liberal blogs were lighting up when they heard early that Pastor Rick Warren, who is anti-gay marriage, would be giving the Inauguration Day invocation. The liberal blogs saw it as a slap in the face to their commitment to Barack Obama and felt that Warren's presence showed that Obama wasn't as strong for gay rights as he talked in the campaign.

The problem with this idea is the fact that many people have to realize that there are a lot - and I would "go out on a limb" and say most - Christian pastors do not agree with gay marriage, either on a religious level or a moral level. What the addition of Rick Warren to the inaugural ceremony tells the rest of the country is that the idea of "I will only listen to those who voted for me" that we've seen during the Bush Administration is over. 50% of the country does not agree with gay marriage. I am not one of them, but I respect their opinion, and Barack Obama does, as well.

Bishop Gene Robinson, the openly gay bishop of a Presbyterian disocees in New Hampshire, will be giving a seperate invocation during the inauguration. Barack Obama is showing off both sides of the debate, united under the universal idea of hope and the idea that this country can move on from the fighting and bickering and move foward to help one another. We need to pick our battles, liberals. We shouldn't get all fired up over something most people consider small.
